1. Getting Started
1.1 Creating Your First Project
Projects are the foundation of MockReview. They help you organize related design files and review requests.
- Navigate to the Projects page from the main menu
- Click "Create New Project"
- Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Mobile App Redesign Q4 2024")
- Add an optional description to provide context
- Click "Create Project"
Tip: Use clear, descriptive project names that your team will recognize. Include client names, project types, or dates.
2. Review Requests
Review Requests are where you upload files for review and manage the approval workflow.
2.1 Uploading Files
- Open a project and click "New Review Request"
- Give it a descriptive title (e.g., "Homepage Hero Section v2")
- Drag and drop files or click to browse
- Supported formats: PNG, JPG, GIF, PDF, SVG
- Multiple files can be uploaded to a single review request
2.2 Inviting Reviewers
You can invite team members or external stakeholders to review your files:
- In the review request, click "Manage Reviewers"
- Enter email addresses (one per line or comma-separated)
- Reviewers receive an email invitation with a direct link
- They can view files and leave comments without creating an account
- Track who has approved each file in the review dashboard
3. File Review & Annotations
3.1 Adding Comments (Callouts)
Click anywhere on an image to add a comment callout:
- Click on the image where you want to leave feedback
- A numbered callout appears at that location
- Type your comment in the panel on the right
- Comments are instantly visible to all reviewers
- Reply to comments to create threaded discussions
- Mark comments as resolved when addressed
3.2 Navigating the File Viewer
- Zoom: Use mouse wheel or pinch gestures
- Pan: Click and drag the canvas
- Fit to Screen: Click the fit button in the toolbar
- Full Screen: Toggle full-screen mode for focused review
4. Approvals & Workflow
Track the approval status of each file in your review request:
4.1 Approving Files
- Click the "Approve" button in the file viewer
- Your approval is recorded and visible to the project owner
- The file shows "X/Y Approved" where X is approvals and Y is total reviewers
- When all reviewers approve, the file is marked as fully approved ✓
4.2 Rejecting Files
- Click the "Reject" button if changes are needed
- Add comments explaining what needs to be changed
- The file owner can see rejection reasons and update accordingly
4.3 Review Request Completion
When all files in a review request are approved by all reviewers, the entire review request is marked as Complete. You'll receive a notification (via email or webhook if configured).
5. Integrations
Connect MockReview with your team's workflow tools using webhooks.
5.1 Setting Up Webhooks
Available on Solo+ plan and above
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- Click "Create Webhook"
- Choose your platform: Slack, Discord, or Custom
- Enter the webhook URL from your platform
- Select which events to receive (new comments, approvals, etc.)
- Click "Test" to verify the connection
5.2 Available Events
- Review Requested: New review request created
- Comment Added: Someone adds a comment/annotation
- File Approved: A reviewer approves a file
- File Rejected: A reviewer rejects a file
- All Files Approved: All files reach full approval
- Review Completed: Entire review request is complete
- Reviewer Invited: New reviewer added to request
- Approval Reset: File approval status reset by owner

7. Tips & Best Practices
Organization
- Create separate projects for each client or major initiative
- Use descriptive names for review requests ("Homepage - Mobile View" vs "Review 1")
- Archive completed projects to keep your workspace clean
Collaboration
- Invite all stakeholders at once to ensure everyone sees the same version
- Use specific, actionable comments ("Move logo 10px left" vs "Fix logo")
- Reply to comments to keep conversations threaded and organized
- Resolve comments as you address them to track progress
File Management
- Export high-quality PNGs or PDFs for the clearest review experience
- Group related files in a single review request for context
- Use version numbers in filenames (e.g., "hero-v2.png")
8. Troubleshooting
File Upload Issues
Problem: File won't upload
- Check file size - maximum is 25MB per file
- Verify file format is supported (PNG, JPG, GIF, PDF, SVG)
- Try a different browser or clear cache
- Check your internet connection
Reviewer Issues
Problem: Reviewer didn't receive invitation email
- Check spam/junk folder
- Verify email address was entered correctly
- Re-send invitation from the Manage Reviewers panel
- Copy the review link and send it directly
Webhook Issues
Problem: Webhooks not delivering
- Use the "Test" button to verify connection
- Ensure webhook URL is correct and accessible
- Check that your webhook endpoint accepts POST requests
- For Slack: regenerate the webhook URL if it's expired
